Best maternity support belt reviews

When you’re pregnant, things happen quickly. It might not seem that way in the beginning, but before you know it, you’ll try to get dressed in the morning and realize you can’t zip your pants. Soon, your belly is growing so quickly that your back, hips, and everything in between start aching.

You might have already started looking for a way to combat this or maybe a friend has recommended something that worked for her. Chances are you’ve discovered maternity support belts. Maternity support belts have helped a lot of women alleviate the aches and pains of pregnancy.

When shopping for one, you’ll probably come across some things that don’t actually offer that much support. A true maternity support belt will actually provide some relief by bracing your back, lifting your tummy, and slightly compressing your abdomen. You’ll see that the term is also used for other products, too. This is not to say that these products aren’t great! In fact, they’re all useful in some way to help make your pregnancy more bearable. Just be aware that not all “belts” will be able to provide the support you might be looking for. The Azmed Maternity Belt is our number one recommendation, but read on for our full reviews and buying guide.

Buying Guide

If you’re looking for a maternity support belt, here are some things you might want to keep in mind:

1. Purpose. Are you looking for something that will help your pants fit better? Or do you need proper support for your back and belly? Both of these are important during pregnancy, but the solutions to these problems will be two very different products. You need to know what you’re looking for before you can decide which product it best for you.

What you’re looking for will determine how much support you need.

2. Support. It’s important to remember that just because an item has “maternity belt” in its name doesn’t mean it will provide you with adequate support. Look for a true maternity belt if you’re looking for relief from back pain. They’re usually adjustable and fit underneath the belly and around the back to provide lift, compression, and support as your body adapts to your changing belly.

Other products on the market are sometimes called “belts,” some of the other products in this niche are actually belly bands. Belly bands are a little different from maternity belts. They can provide a small amount of support but their main purpose is to help with clothing fit and comfort.

3. Material. Pregnancy messes with your hormones and hot flashes are very common, so the last thing you want is a thick material that doesn’t breathe and makes you even more uncomfortable. Make sure you choose something that will help keep you comfortable.

For the following reviews, we’ve covered a little bit of everything. You’ll find our number one pick for a true maternity belt plus some other products, from belly bands to a way to make your pre-pregnancy pants fit a little better.

Reviews

1. AZMED Maternity Belt (Link)

We’re calling the Azmed Belt our favorite because of all the maternity items we reviewed for this list, it offers the most support and is the best choice for women suffering from pregnancy related back pain.

This belt is ideal for middle to late pregnancy when your growing belly has started to affect your posture and your lower back pain kicks up a bit. It works by providing support to your baby bump and slight compression to your lower abdomen. This will redistribute the extra weight and make it easier for your body to carry it. Your back will also feel better because it also offers a bit of lower back support.

It’s made of breathable elastic material that won’t make you feel even hotter than you already do. Pregnancy increases your body temperature and the last thing you need is something else making you hot and sweaty, especially if you happen to be heavily pregnant in the summer. It’s also adjustable and should be able to take you through to the end of your pregnancy.

If you’re looking for a proper maternity belt that offers effective support, the Azmed Belt is our winner. It won’t fit over your pants to help keep them up and it probably won’t be much use to you at the beginning of your pregnancy. That said, as you things progress, you might find you need much more support than just some help keeping up your pants. If that’s the case, give the Azmed Belt a try.

2. Babo Care Belly Band (Link)

The Babo Care Belly Band is another option that will give you a little more support and can truly help ease any back pain or discomfort your pregnancy has caused. It provides gentle compression to the abdomen to help lift and distribute the increasing weight of your belly which helps your back and hips carry it a little better.

This belt is designed to be worn daily during normal activities and is soft and breathable so it will fit nicely under any clothing. It’s adjustable up to 48 inches and will fit throughout your entire pregnancy.

If you’re looking for another reason to try this belt, it comes with a 100% money back guarantee. This is especially worth it if you’re planning on having a second or third pregnancy.

While this belt does provide adequate support, it’s not as comfortable against the skin as some of the others we reviewed. Wearing a thin tank top or camisole underneath can help alleviate any itchiness or discomfort, but this might not be ideal if it’s summer and adding another layer of fabric might not be ideal.

3. Ingrid & Isabel Women’s Maternity Everyday Bellaband (Link)

One of the most popular maternity belly bands, the Bellaband was created when Ingrid was pregnant with her daughter, Isabel. She was getting ready for work one morning and found that she could no longer button her pants. That’s really how pregnancy growth happens. One day, your belly pops and your pants don’t fit.

The Bellaband is made of a thick, soft nylon and cotton blend. It’s stretchy with a silicone strip on the inside to help keep it in place. Available in four sizes and colors, it fits all shapes of women and single or multiple pregnancies. It’s also really wide, so it can cover your whole belly even when you’re heavily pregnant.

One great thing about the Bellaband is that you can use it throughout your entire pregnancy. In the beginning, fold it over to wear over your normal pants to hold them up as your belly grows. This is a great way to save a little money on maternity clothes at the beginning because it extends the wear of your regular clothes for at least a few more months.

One thing that can be a little tricky about the Bellaband is sizing. Make sure you check their size chart before you buy one, but it’s worth mentioning that this is the only product we reviewed that is not one size fits all.

While this belly band will provide you with a little bit of gentle pressure, it’s not really designed to help alleviate back pain. It’s great for extending the life of your pre-pregnancy clothes. It’s also the only item on our list that you’ll find a use for at any point in your pregnancy. You might even find you like wearing it after you’ve given birth while you’re recovering. There are a lot of great uses for the Bellaband, but it won’t really help alleviate back pain.

4. Fertile Mind Women’s Maternity Belt (Link)

For any woman wanting something to help modify her regular clothes into something more pregnancy friendly, the Fertile Mine Women’s Maternity Belt is exactly what you need. This is a much different product the the other items on this list as is isn’t really a belt at all. It’s actually more accurate to call it a maternity pants extender.

Fertile Mind Women’s Maternity Belt is a complete kit of various inserts. It includes four different kinds of extenders and three panels. The extenders connect to either buttons or slide closures of your pants or skirts to extend the waistband while the panels can be inserted between the zipper to keep you covered once your belly grows to the point that zipping is no longer possible.

This product really doesn’t provide support in the way that a true maternity belt does. It doesn’t do anything to provide lift to your tummy, abdominal compression, or lower back support. But it will help keep your pants up and can save you a lot of money because you won’t need to buy as many maternity clothes.

If what you’re looking for is a way to help keep your clothes fitting well, this is a great option. If you need more support for pregnancy growing pains, this isn’t the product for you.

Conclusion

While they may not all be true “maternity belts,” all of the items we reviewed will definitely help you find comfort during your pregnancy. That said, if you’re looking for something that gives you a lot of support and can help with aches and pains, the Azmed Maternity Belt is our number one recommendation.
